Over the weekend I chose to take still life photos of the board game Clue. For this I focused on blurring the background by altering the aperture and removing distractions from the background by shooting in front of a blank background. Our assignment was to take around 50 pictures and choose our best ones. Enjoy! During this assignment, I learned how hard product photography for advertisements is. It was difficult to place the objects so you could tell what everything was while still making the photo visually appealing. I also took the photos when it was dark outside, so I had to really slow down the shutter speed to let in enough light. Overall, I enjoyed this assignment.

For this assignment we learned how to use the retouching, brush, and quick selection tools in Photoshop. We adjusted a picture of a car to hide the background and some lights reflecting on the car. We also adjusted tint and levels. This assignment had a learning curve to it. At first the tasks were very difficult, but the second time around it was much easier. It was fun to experiment with changing the color of the car and painting the background black.
Over the weekend I chose to take portrait photos of my little sisters. For this I focused on removing distractions to focus on the subject and using aperture to experiment with depth of field. Our assignment was to take around 50 pictures and choose our best; I ended up taking over 200. . . Enjoy! Shutter Speed - 1/500 Aperture - f5.6 ISO - 3200 During this assignment, I feel that my portrait photography skills improved. It was difficult at first because my sisters moved so much that I had to use a really fast shutter speed to get clear photos, but using a wide aperture helped with that a little. Overall, I really enjoyed this assignment.
For this assignment we experimented with coloring, hue, and saturation in Photoshop to create pop art. For one picture we followed the instructions for specific colors; for the second picture we chose our own picture and colors. During this assignment I learned basic photoshop elements, such as experimenting with different layers of a photo. I also experimented with changing the threshold and adjusting the hue/saturation. Overall this assignment taught me a lot about navigating Photoshop.
For my first photo assignment, I am choosing to focus on portraits. I hope to use my knowledge of aperture to focus on the subject and blur the background. Some of my inspiration for this assignment: These photos are good examples of blurring the background and removing distractions to focus only on the subject. I plan to take pictures of my little sisters inside and outside of our house to complete this assignment.
For this assignment we experimented with eleven different elements of composition. Rule of ThirdsPatternSymmetryTextureDepth of FieldLinesFramingPerspectiveSpaceBalanceColorWhat I LearnedThis assignment was a good review of composition elements I should be thinking about. Most of them I had already learned, but the assignment was a great reminder to keep them in mind. I think it would be beneficial if we went over the techniques as a class because the website was sometimes confusing in their explanations and I had multiple people ask me questions about different composition elements.
